This south-facing slope provides a micro climate which favours the culture of rhododendrons, azaleas and other marginally hardy species. In mid April, early rhododendrons and daffodils start the bloom cycle. Mid May to the end of June brings forth all the glory of azaleas, flowering dogwood, and garland spirea. The blooming period is extended throughout the summer with mass plantings of astilbe and day lilies. Note the interesting use of foliage plants such as hosta, sedums, and ferns bordering the path edges. |
