Public Consultation on Future Uses for Casa Loma
In August 2011, City Council created the Casa Loma Corporation (CLC) for the purpose of managing the continuing operations of Casa Loma on an interim basis until its future ownership and management direction could be determined.
The CLC has begun a process of identifying and considering options for Casa Loma’s future. The public and other stakeholders have important feedback and advice to contribute to this process. Building on consultations held to date with a range of stakeholders, a public workshop will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2012. At the public workshop, the CLC will present and seek feedback on the process being undertaken and potential directions being considered.
Councillors Joe Mihevc, Ward 21 and Councillor Josh Matlow Ward 22, will co-host the evening.
Date: Thursday, May 10, 2012
Time: 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Location: Grace Church on the Hill, 300 Lonsdale Road, Toronto
Casa Loma is an iconic tourism and heritage landmark, designed by Canadian architect E. J. Lennox for use by industrialist Sir Henry Pellatt as his family residence. The Pellatts took up residence in 1913 but lost Casa Loma in 1924 due to Sir Henry’s financial situation. In 1933, the city of Toronto took ownership of the property. From 1936 through 2011 Casa Loma was operated by the Kiwanis Club of Casa Loma as a tourist attraction and event venue.
